EMDR therapy, the therapist guides the individual through a structured process that includes recalling distressing memories while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli, often involving eye movements, taps, or auditory tones. These bilateral stimulations are believed to facilitate the brain's information processing, helping to reprocess the traumatic memories and reduce their emotional intensity.
