FAQ

Wooden magnifying glass and question marks

Choosing to pursue counselling is a significant decision, and it's entirely normal to have questions about whether it's the right choice for you. Here are some indicators that counselling may be beneficial:

  1. Emotional distress: If you're struggling with overwhelming emotions, persistent sadness, anxiety, anger, or other emotional challenges that impact your daily life, counselling can provide the support you need.
  2. Life transitions and challenges: Counselling can be beneficial during major life transitions, such as having a baby, divorce, loss, career changes, or relationship issues. It can help you navigate these changes with resilience and adaptability.
  3. Relationship difficulties: If you're facing problems in your personal or professional relationships, counselling can offer guidance on effective communication, conflict resolution, and building healthier connections.
  4. Stress and coping: Counseling can provide you with strategies for managing stress, developing coping mechanisms, and enhancing your overall well-being.
  5. Mental health concerns: If you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health disorder (you do not need to have a diagnosis).
  6. Trauma and PTSD: For those who have experienced trauma, counselling, particularly specialized trauma therapy like EMDR, can be an essential part of the healing process.
  7. Lack of support: If you feel isolated or lack a support network to discuss your concerns, a therapist can offer a safe and confidential space to express your thoughts and feelings.
  8. Unresolved issues: Lingering or unresolved issues from your past can continue to impact your present. Counselling can help you address and resolve these issues.

Virtual counselling is a convenient approach that allows individuals to receive therapy and counselling services through digital platforms, such as video calls or phone calls, rather than in-person sessions at a therapist's office. Virtual counselling can be an excellent choice for those who prefer the flexibility and accessibility it offers. It can be particularly valuable for individuals who may have physical constraints, busy schedules, live in remote areas, or simply prefer the comfort of their own environment.

I am happy to offer free 15 minute consultations (video or phone) to anyone interested in counselling services. This will allow you an opportunity to ask any questions you have and to determine if my services are good fit for you. There is no obligation to book after this consult.

Counselling sessions vary from 50-90 minutes depending on your preference and need. Initial couples counselling sessions are 90 minutes and subsequent sessions are 50-90 minutes.

At this time, I am only offering counselling for adults. If you require services for your child, I am happy to provide referral recommendations.

Your privacy and confidentiality is essential. I am committed to creating a safe and secure environment in which you can openly express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

Everything discussed during counselling sessions is strictly confidential. This means that I will not disclose any information shared during your sessions without your explicit written consent, except in cases where there is a legal obligation to breach confidentiality to ensure your safety or the safety of others. Additionally, I use a secure and encrypted platform for virtual counselling sessions to safeguard your personal and health information.

As a Registered Social Worker, I adhere to ethical and professional standards that respect and protect your privacy. Before beginning counselling, you will receive an informed consent form, which outlines privacy policies, the limitations of confidentiality, and your rights as a client.

My practice is based at Well Vitality Health Clinic, situated at 616 3rd Avenue South in Lethbridge, Alberta. While I'm physically located in Lethbridge, I'm pleased to provide virtual counselling services to residents of Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba.

I offer both in-person and virtual appointments to accommodate your preferences and needs.

Infants who are not yet walking are warmly welcomed at in-person appointments, and children of all ages can be present for virtual sessions. Considering the sensitive nature of our sessions, I recommend that you consider the age and development of your children if they are to be present during appointments.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you cannot attend your appointment. Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be billed at half of the hourly rate. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis.

Your first appointment (initial assessment), is billed at $175.00 per hour.

My standard counselling fee (all subsequent appointments) is $150.00 per therapeutic hour (50 minutes for session, 10 minutes for billing and report time).

Payment Methods: I offer secure online payment options for your convenience. Payments can be made through a Square invoice using major credit cards or Debit Visa. Additionally, I am happy to accommodate clients who prefer e-transfer as an alternative payment method.

Insurance Coverage: Many insurance providers offer partial or full coverage for my counselling services, depending on the specifics of your insurance plan. To determine your eligibility and coverage, I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly. I offer the convenience of direct billing for most insurance providers, making it easier for you to access the services you need. It is important to note that certain providers, such as Sunlife and Manulife, do not permit direct billing for psychological services. In such cases, you can still receive services and submit your claims to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

If counselling is not affordable, please reach out to me directly to discuss options.
